This year, the Well-being Pension for Elderly People had a 25% increase, so they receive a total of 6,000 pesos every two months from the Federal Government; however, recently an initiative was launched with the aim of extending this support to people over 60 years of age who are undocumented in the United States.

For this purpose, a campaign called "Respect and Honor for the Macehualli Adults" was implemented by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) and Nik Theodore, a professor at the University of Chicago, Illinois, who aim to extend the Well-being Pension to the approximately 5 million Mexican elderly adults over 62 years of age living irregularly in the neighboring country to the north.

It is worth noting that this campaign is inspired by Aztec culture, in which there was admiration and honor for the elderly, who were precisely called Macehualli. In this regard, Miguel Alejandro Robles Gómez, a Morena deputy, has promoted this initiative in order to offer a better quality of life to this sector of society, which is why he submitted this proposal to the Congress of the Union, although there has been no concrete response so far.

"This is an established right that I am proposing to be even more crystallized," he said at a press conference in front of the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles.

Likewise, in compliance with article 42 of the Federal Budget and Fiscal Responsibility Law, on March 27, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público in Spanish) sent to the Congress of the Union the Pre-General Criteria of Economic Policy (PCGPE) 2025, so it is estimated that the Pension for the Well-being of Elderly People would increase from 465 billion pesos in 2024 to 483 billion pesos in 2025, which would imply an increase of more than 16 billion pesos.

Therefore, from 2023 to 2024, individuals over 65 who can benefit from this social program, which was initially 4,800 pesos every two months and then increased to 6,000 pesos, could enjoy an increase next year, with the entry of a new government.
