Foreign Exchange Income Grows

Income has already surpassed pre-pandemic levels 14.454 billion dollars was the balance as of July from international visitors

From January to July of this year, foreign exchange income from international visitors reached 20.3005 billion dollars, a 7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism.

Based on the International Travelers Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), foreign exchange income has already surpassed pre-pandemic levels, with 33.3 percent more than the amount captured in 2019, which was 15.2253 billion dollars.

In terms of the number of visitors, during the first seven months of the year, 25.825 million tourists entered the country, which represents a 5.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

He indicated that foreign exchange income from international tourists amounted to 18.765 billion dollars, representing a 6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

In a statement, Miguel Torruco Marqués specified that from January to July 2024, 14.376 million air travelers entered Mexico, a 3.7 percent annual increase.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that from January to July of this year, 14.376 million international air tourists arrived in Mexico, representing a 3.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

He highlighted that foreign exchange income from international air tourists during the cited period saw a 5.9 percent increase compared to the amount captured in the same period in 2023, reaching 17.035 billion dollars.

Regarding the average spending by international air tourists, during the first seven months of the year, it reached 1,184.9 dollars, with a 2.1 percent annual growth.

Additionally, foreign exchange income from cruise tourists during these months amounted to 498.3 million dollars, representing a 36.4 percent increase compared to the amount captured in the same period in 2019, when 365.2 million dollars were recorded.

He emphasized that from January to July 2024, the balance of the international visitors' account was 14.454 billion dollars, 2.3 percent more than what was registered in the same period of 2023.
