It’s a fact that Mexico exerts a notable influence in the global tourism sector. According to a recent study by the tourism platform Civitatis, in just May of this year, spending by Mexican travelers reached $895.6 million, representing a 21.5 percent increase compared to the previous year.

These figures undoubtedly highlight the importance of Mexican tourists in the global tourism economy. It’s no surprise, then, that Visit Orlando, the official tourism association of Orlando, reported last April that the number of Mexican tourists grew by 10 percent in 2023, with 432,000 visitors coming from Mexico.

Casandra Matej, president and CEO of Visit Orlando, shared with me how the city continues to be a popular and accessible destination for Mexican tourists. Orlando, which received more than 74 million visitors in 2023, still holds the recognition of being the most visited destination in the United States.

International visits grew by 25 percent, with more than 6 million international visitors, highlighting the continued appeal of the destination for the Mexican market.

Matej highlights air connectivity as a key factor in the increase in Mexican tourism.?With 36 weekly direct flights to Orlando from—Mexico City, Cancún, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mérida—the destination's accessibility has significantly improved. This expansion of direct routes makes it easier for Mexican travelers to visit, increasing the frequency of visits and strengthening the tourism ties between the two countries.

Regarding the experiences offered beyond the famous theme parks, Orlando has developed a wide variety of activities and attractions for all tastes.?From theaters and museums to immersive experiences and outdoor adventures, the city strives to fulfill the desires and dreams of all its visitors.

Visit Orlando has launched new specialized websites, including a Spanish version for Spanish-speaking consumers, offering planning resources and personalized advice.?The importance of the Mexican market for the destination is reflected not only in the number of visitors but also in specific initiatives to cater to these tourists.

Today, Mexican tourists enjoy the city with family and friends, and besides the theme parks, they are interested in activities like shopping, enjoying local cuisine, and attending sporting events. This diverse offering contributes to visitor satisfaction and loyalty.

Additionally, Orlando is expanding its entertainment offerings with new developments and attractions, such as the arrival of new classes of ships from Cape Canaveral, like the Utopia of the Seas, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in tourism.
