The National Security Council (NSC) of the United States has called on Venezuela's National Electoral Council to release the complete and detailed results of last Sunday's election, including by polling station, which officially declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner.
In a statement, NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson emphasized that the United States stands with the Venezuelan people and their democratic aspirations.
"The United States supports the democratic aspirations of the Venezuelan people, including their right to express their opinions without fear of reprisals freely," she stated.
She highlighted that the United States closely monitored Venezuela's presidential elections on Sunday, July 28, and the subsequent announcements by Venezuela's National Electoral Council.
"We continue to urge Venezuelan electoral authorities to publish complete, transparent, and detailed voting results, including by polling station," she said.
Claims that results do not reflect the people's will
The U.S. government body deemed it "critical" to address the "clear signs" that the electoral results announced by Venezuela's National Electoral Council "do not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people as expressed at the polls on July 28."
In this regard, the statement added that they are reviewing other electoral data shared by civil society organizations and reports from international electoral observers.
